Features of the new syllabus for the RHS Master of Horticulture The RHS have made available a draft syllabus to be effective from October 2005. The scheme includes : RHS Diploma Module H - The practical exam or an equivalent. 001 Horticulture and Research 002 A – Amenity Horticulture or B – Production Horticulture 003 Operational Management in Horticultural Business Environments 004 Principles and processes of World Horticulture 005 Specialist option 006 Strategic Management in Horticultural Business Environment 007 Technical Skills Assessment (2 day practical exam) 008 Dissertation Traditional exams only for Modules 04, 05 & 06. OUR STUDY PROGRAMME IN OUTLINE The HCC is here to be helpful but because the syllabus is so wide ranging and the number of potential students who may seek to enrol with us is exceedingly few, it is impractical for us to consider creating taught courses. It would also be hugely demanding in time and expertise and if we did attempt to do it, it would be costly and this would have to be reflected in the course fees. These fees would probably also reduce the attractiveness of studies with us. However, on the positive side – we have helped in the past by : (i) Providing a set of questions which we invite the applicant to work through. These would be given full tutorial care, marking and advice – but without specimen answers. The set of questions would be prepared as 10 units that could be based upon one or two modules – of the member’s choice and to be agreed in advance. From this it will be quite clear that we are not offering to cover all 8 modules within one enrolment package – but at the most 2 modules [again our members could choose the focus for the question sets within the module(s) of their choice]. (ii) There will be the opportunity to choose from all our lessons and their associated specimen answers. The “normal pack” of 10 lessons of your choice are included. As the coursework proceeds up to 5 more lessons of your choice (maximum) can again be chosen, from any course, that may be considered relevant and helpful (all included within the fee structure). Furthermore, the tutorial care element would be available for advice on the Dissertation if this was the choice or working through the mock papers provided by the RHS.
